RISC-V
RISC-V can be thought of as an open-source instruction manual for processors.
The RISC-V instruction set architecture (ISA) is simple, scalable, and modular, making it a versatile tool for a wide range of tech applications, including Bitcoin. By employing a smaller, optimized set of instructions, RISC-V-based processors may be able to execute operations faster and with fewer resources compared to more complex instruction set architectures. Its flexibility could also potentially enhance verification processes and program compilation for the proposed BitVM protocol.
Designers use the RISC-V ISA, overseen by RISC-V International, as a blueprint to create their own custom processor hardware. The ISA specification is freely available without licensing fees or restrictions, allowing for open collaboration and innovation around the architecture.
